Ex MP Niranjan Bishi Raises Strong Voice Against Proposed 40% Job Cut at Rourkela Steel Plant
Sri Bishi Demands immediate withdrawal of retrenchment move; calls for protection of workers, dialogue with unions and revival roadmap for RSP.
New Delhi / Bhubaneswar, April 27: Rajya Sabha MP Niranjan Bishi has strongly opposed the reported proposal to reduce nearly 40% of the workforce, including contractual workers, at Rourkela Steel Plant and urged the Union Government to intervene immediately.
In a representation to Union Steel Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, he said the move has created widespread anxiety among employees, labour unions and the people of western Odisha.
He described Rourkela Steel Plant as the economic backbone of the region and warned that any abrupt downsizing would adversely affect livelihoods, industrial harmony, transport, ancillary industries and small businesses.
He also demanded talks with Rourkela Shramik Sangh and other stakeholders while calling for long-term modernization and employment security.
