JCI demands DGP to make public the list of nodal officers for redressal of problems of journalists
DGP Uttar Pradesh had written a letter to all the Police Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police under letter number DG/8/140 (25)/2017-2019/8985 dated 27 August 2024, passing an order regarding the appointment of officers in the district for the problems of journalists, in which it was said that journalists should not face any kind of problem, their family should not be targeted for journalism, for this a competent officer should be appointed in every district who should listen to the problems of the journalists and resolve them and take appropriate action.
But when many journalists wanted to know the names of the said officers from the head of the police department regarding their problem, they were clearly told that the copy of the order has not yet arrived. Journalists were worried about this and some journalists had contacted the President and Convenor of the organization. In this regard, the National President, National Convenor and National Advisory Committee of the Journalist Council of India along with the members of the State Advisory Committee held a virtual meeting and concluded that why not write a letter to the Director General of Police to get more information in this regard. Regarding this, the President of the organization, Dr. Anurag Saxena, has demanded to make public the list of officers appointed for the safety and resolution of problems of journalists through a letter to the head of the state police department. Concern has also been expressed in the letter about the names of the nodal officers not being clear. It has been said in the said letter that for the convenience of journalists, the list of the entire state including the names, designations and phone numbers of the concerned nodal officers should be made public. So that journalists can easily contact the concerned officer regarding their problems.
