Medha Patkar Detained by Police at Rayagada Railway Station
Renowned social activist Medha Patkar was detained by police at Rayagada Railway Station on Thursday. Patkar, known for her environmental activism, was on her way to participate in a protest against industrialization in the region.
According to reports, Patkar arrived at Rayagada Railway Station on the Hirakhand Express, intending to proceed to Kashipur to join the protest. However, police under the leadership of DSP stopped her and took her into custody, citing concerns about law and order.
Patkar refused to comply, insisting that she would visit a journalist’s home. The police eventually relented and took her to the journalist’s residence, where she was kept under surveillance.
The protest, organized by the Prakriti Sampada Suraksha Samiti, aims to oppose the presence of industries such as Maitri Infrastructure and Vedanta in the region. Patkar’s detention has sparked concerns about the government’s attempts to suppress dissenting voices.
