World Health Day was observed by the Institution of Engineers India Rourkela centre

Rourkela: World Health Day was observed by the Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela Local Centre at NIT Campus, Rourkela. The event was conducted in a hybrid mode, both online and offline, on the topic “Together for health. Stand with science.” The speaker for the occasion was Dr. P. K. Mohapatra, Former CMO (M&HS) IGH, Sr. Consultant Gastroenterology, Apollo Hospital, Rourkela. The programme was coordinated by the Honorary Secretary, Er. Himansu Satapathy. The meeting was chaired by Past Chairman Er. Santosh Kumar Polaki, who delivered the welcome address. The Honorary Secretary briefly introduced the speaker and invited Dr. Mohapatra to deliver his lecture.

In his presentation, Dr. Mohapatra highlighted that Science forms the backbone of modern healthcare. Vaccines, medicines, and treatments are rigorously tested before reaching patients, and every medical advancement is grounded in systematic methodology and peer-reviewed research. Trusting evidence over opinion and relying on qualified medical professionals rather than unverified social media claims is essential for making informed health decisions. When we stand with science, we choose facts over fear, expertise over assumptions, and proven treatments over potentially harmful misinformation. Emerging research further suggests that maintaining good health is not merely passive but a conscious choice. Individuals can actively “engineer” their well-being by adopting healthy behaviors and leveraging modern technologies. Achieving and sustaining health therefore requires informed decisions, consistent actions, and personal responsibility. This perspective strongly aligns with the World Health Day Theme 2026: “Together for Health: Stand with Science.”

The presentation was followed by an engaging interactive session involving industrialists and academicians. Subsequently, Er. Polaki presented a certificate of merit and a memento to Dr. Mohapatra in recognition of his insightful contribution. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Honorary Secretary, Er. Himansu Satapathy. A total of 45 members and guests participated in the event, both online and offline.
