Nearly 300 Kg of Suspected Stolen Copper Wire Seized in Muniguda
One Arrested; Car and Digital Weighing Machine Also Confiscated
Rayagada /Muniguda, September 10: Muniguda police have seized nearly 300 kg of copper wire and other copper materials, suspected to be stolen, from a Honda Amaze car during vehicle checking near New Hope on SH-06 on Wednesday evening. One person has been arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to police, the seizure was made in Muniguda PS Case No. 258 dated September 9, 2026, under Section 303(2) of the BNS.
Police said that ASI J. Sahu, along with other police personnel, was conducting evening patrolling and motor vehicle checking in the Muniguda police station area at around 5.45 pm when a Honda Amaze car bearing registration number OD-14-G-2268, coming from the Ambadola side towards Muniguda, was intercepted.
During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly found seven plastic gunny bags containing copper wires and other copper materials. The materials were reportedly not covered with plastic wrapping. On weighing, the bags had a combined gross weight of approximately 299.820 kg.
Police also seized one digital weighing machine and a mobile phone from the vehicle, besides the car. The approximate value of the seized copper materials has been put at around Rs 3 lakh.
The arrested person has been identified as Kanhu Charan Subudhi (40), son of Judhisthri Subudhi of Paikasahi village under Muniguda police station limits in Rayagada district.
According to the police, the accused allegedly failed to satisfactorily explain the source of the copper materials and subsequently made a statement claiming that the copper wires were stolen articles. Police seized the materials and the vehicle in the presence of independent witnesses.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the copper materials, their alleged theft and whether other persons are involved in the case.
